Stewart new head coach

Bill Stewart had an 8-25 career coaching record before last night in three years as a head coach at VMI. Now he has as many BCS victories as Rich Rodriguez. Stewart the scramble for the assistants in another turf battle with Michigan as Bill Steart will be named the head coach of WVU at 11 o'clock today according to the Daily Mail. Stewart passed his job interview with flying colors and managed to have PW and some other players publicly call him out for the job and the entire WVU fanbase in Arizona chanting "We want Stew" after the game.

Calvin Magee had previously stated he was going to Michigan after the Fiesta Bowl. Rodriguez had also hinted that Defensive Coordinator Jeff Casteel and Strength and Conditioning Coach Mike Barwis could also join him along with maybe some other assistants. I would believe that Stewart would have two jobs after the press conference. Take the recruiting test so he can immediately call all WVU recruits and try to keep the staff together.

WVU had could have brought in a bigger name after a delay, but chose to build on the momentum of the Fiesta Bowl. In order to achieve that goal Stewart will need to save as much of the staff as possible. Otherwise WVU may as well have gone with a big name and started over.

Stewart may not have much head coaching experience, but the players love him. He also has more BCS wins than Holliday, Jones, Trickett, and Bowden (the four interviewed since December 16th) combined. He was able to prove he was the right man to hold the team together in the month of December as things kept getting worse. The team played fast and loose in the Fiesta Bowl so the coaching job worked for one game. Now we wait and see if it will work for 13. And then we'll worry about 26, 39, 52, etc.
